Early Treatment as a public policy for the control of the COVID-19 Pandemic: preliminary data from a comparative study on the case of Chapecó -SC, Brazil
Abstract
Objective: To analyze the repercussions of Early Treatment for COVID-19 at the community level as a public policy. Methods: Data were extracted from the COVID-19 epidemiological bulletins of the Municipality of Chapecó to calculate mortality and mortality from COVID-19 from January 1st to June 30th. For comparison purposes, the same was done with data from Criciúma, a municipality with a similar population and which did not adopt Early Treatment as a public policy. Results: The municipality of Chapecó presented an increasing and steeper curve of lethality and mortality from COVID-19 compared to the municipality of Criciúma. There was a statistically significant difference in lethality (p=0.0019) and mortality rate (p=0.001), but the Effect Size was very small (r=0.14), the chance of dying from COVID-19 was the same in both municipalities (OR=0,99). Conclusion: The implementation of Early Treatment as a public policy did not mitigate the indicators related to death by COVID-19.
