Abstract

HIV is the causative etiologic agent of AIDS. Antiretroviral therapy (ART) is being used as a pharmacological strategy that suppresses viral replication, with post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) being one of the strategies of TAVR. The study aims to evaluate the use of HIV post-exposure prophylaxis in a city in the interior of Pernambuco. The study is a descriptive, cross-sectional epidemiological research. The most affected sex was male, with 57% of the total users. The age group with the highest number is between 20 and 40 years old, and with an average age around 34 years old. The municipality's CTA records are with the same trends as the SINAN HIV/AIDS notifications. The study presents relevant information on the use of PEP, which can guide the planning and execution of public policies at the municipal level.
