Abstract

Breastfeeding provides the ideal food for the child's healthy growth and development, in addition to being involved in mechanisms related to maternal health. The aim of the study was to obtain the prevalence and characterize the profile of mothers and/or guardians of children undergoing exclusive breastfeeding (EBF), predominant, supplemented or partial breastfeeding and artificial breastfeeding among children aged zero to two years in the city of Palmas. TO. The study is quantitative, cross-sectional. 112 mothers and/or guardians of children aged zero to two years were interviewed between April and August 2021. For the sample calculation, the EpInfo program was used, establishing a confidence level of 95% with a margin of error of 5%. There was a prevalence of 68.75% of breastfeeding and the average time was 5 months and 29 days. However, 63.39% used infant formula, lasting 12 months and 37 days, with the majority, 75% being prescribed by a health professional. There was a predominance of EBF practice, however, this adherence tended to decrease over the first six months of the child, demonstrating that EBF maintenance is still a challenge for health care services.
