Surveillance and response to hand-foot-and-mouth disease: situation in the municipality of Palmas/TO from 2019 to 2021.

Abstract

Health authorities have been alerting about diseases caused by enteroviruses, and the demand for surveillance of these infections. Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD) is part of the group of diseases developed by enteroviruses, with occurrences recorded in different countries of the world, including Brazil. The objective of this study is to characterize the epidemiological profile of HFMD in the municipality of Palmas/TO based on notifications from 2019 to 2021, describing the public at greatest risk and thus collaborating with government actions to control the disease. Epidemiological study, where data were extracted from the notification system of diseases and injuries of the municipal health department, analyzing variables such as age, gender, education, race and geographic location. Individual conditions, early childhood group and location of residence may favor the transmission of the infection. Preventive and comprehensive strategic planning can be implemented to protect collective health, in addition to reducing serious events.
