Abstract

The present study aims to investigate the trends in mortality from neoplasms in young adults in Brazil, according to regions and federal units (UFs), from 1996 to 2021, as well as to describe the sociodemographic scenario. An ecological study of time series was conducted. The study included the Brazilian population of both sexes, aged between 20 and 39 years, who died from cancer. The study shows that between 1996 and 2021, there were a total of 221,028 deaths from neoplasms in young and young adults in Brazil. Furthermore, all regions showed an increase in the absolute number of deaths based on the beginning and end of the analyzed period (1996 - 2021). Regarding the mortality trend by regions, a highly heterogeneous scenario was observed. As for gender, both men and women showed a stationary trend in mortality. It is essential to promote knowledge about the determinants of cancer in this population and overcome the challenges in early diagnosis.
