Incidência De Acidente Vascular Encefálico Em Um Hospital Regional Público De Referência Do Piauí -PI

Abstract

Stroke is caused by the interruption of cerebral blood flow or the rupture of a vessel in the brain, resulting in hypoxia and death of brain cells. The objective of this study was to identify the incidence of stroke in a regional public hospital in the interior of Piauí, Brazil, from 2019 to 2021. A quantitative and retrospective research was conducted, investigating hospital admissions due to stroke. Variables such as gender, age, place of residence, diagnosis, year, and clinical outcome were analyzed. Data analysis was performed using Microsoft Excel and the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences. The results showed a total of 92 stroke cases, with the highest incidence occurring in 2019. Of the registered cases, 53 were classified as ischemic stroke and 39 as hemorrhagic stroke. The majority of cases occurred in male individuals, and the age group most affected was between 60 and 69 years. Regarding the patients' place of residence, most were from other cities. These findings are relevant for scientific knowledge and the improvement of healthcare to prevent and treat stroke.
