Óbitos por coronavírus no Maranhão, Brasil: um recorte temporal

Abstract

Introduction: COVID-19 is a consequence of the new SARS-COV-2, which is transmitted by droplets and secretions from speech, sneezing or coughing. Objective: To analyze cases of deaths from COVID-19 in Maranhão. Materials and Methods: Ecological time series study. Collection carried out through the Epidemiological Bulletin of the Secretary of State for Health of Maranhão on deaths due to COVID-19. STATA 15.0 software was used for data analysis. Linear regression analysis was performed. The following variables were adopted: sociodemographic and clinical conditions. Results: 5,877 deaths from COVID-19 were confirmed between January and December 2021, where the mortality rate showed an increasing trend in March (14.30) and April (16.95), decreasing in May (12.14). Between July and November, it increased in December (1.16) per 100,000 inhabitants. In the linear regression analysis, ages 50 to 59, 60 to 70 and over 70 years old were statistically significant (p≤ 0.01), as well as brown, white and black races. When correcting the correlation for heteroscedasticity, deaths influenced the magnitudes male gender, age over 70 years, brown race and heart disease. Conclusion: The study revealed a relationship between the variables comorbidity, heart disease, obesity, age over 70 years, male gender and brown skin color, as predictors of deaths from COVID-19.
