Abstract

Mining is one of the world's most unhealthy work sectors, resulting in high accident rates. Therefore, it is fundamental to analyze the work accidents, deaths, and permanent disability of workers that broadly happen in the sector, allowing the identification of trends and the proposition of public policies to reduce the indexes. The objective of the work consists of a survey of work accident rates in the Brazilian mining sector using data from the Brazilian Ministry of Labor and Social Security, from the years 2008 to 2020. The data were obtained from the ministry's website, filtered according to the National Classification of Economic Activities (CNAE) related to the mining sector and compiled with the help of an electronic spreadsheet, allowing the generation of graphs and data analysis. The results indicate that the stone, sand and clay extraction industries, usually medium and small enterprises, lead the statistics related to work accidents, deaths and permanent disability of their workers.
