Incidência de Glaucoma em Pacientes com Hipertensão Arterial Sistêmica
Abstract
Introduction: Glaucoma is a pathology that can damage the optic nerve with negative responses in the field of vision, considered to be blindness with irreversible effects. Objective: to perform an analysis of the incidence of glaucoma in patients with systemic arterial hypertension. Material and methods: To meet the objective of the research, a collection was carried out using questionnaires for a greater level of detail, these presented information about age, sex, birthplace, education, patient's perception of their own vision and use of medications. A survey of intraocular pressure (IOP) verification was also carried out. The target audience was 68 hypertensive patients treated at the Basic Health Unit (BHU) Diego Lucena located in the municipality of Patos. Patients underwent screening for glaucoma, with an IOP lower than 21 mmHg being established as the cut-off point for normal intraocular pressure. Results: the results for multiple linear regression (forward method) showed no influence of Diabetes Mellitus on IOP of the right eye (F(1) = 4.526, p < 0.037; adjusted R2 = 0.050), since there was an increase in IOP levels of the right eye in people who did not have the pathology, which explains 5% of the outcome. Conclusion: The present study did not show a statistically significant correlation between Glaucoma and Systemic Arterial Hypertension.
