Efeitos de sessão única de massagem clássica sobre a percepção da dor e limiar de tolerância de dor à pressão em mulheres saudáveis
Abstract
The aim of this study was to verify the perception of pain and pressure pain threshold in women undergoing a classic massage session. This is a single-blind randomized clinical study in which 55 healthy adult women participated, with no complaints of pain. Participants were randomly divided into two groups: massage group and control group. The massage group received classic massage for 20 minutes with sliding, kneading, friction, percussion and vibration maneuvers in the dorsal region of the spine, and the control group rested in the prone position. Before and after the period, all volunteers were evaluated by a blind evaluator regarding pain tolerance using algometry on the lumbar paravertebral muscles. Data were analyzed by analysis of variance (ANOVA). Before the intervention, the groups were similar regarding pain tolerance. After the massage, the only difference observed was a lower tolerance to pain on the right side in individuals in the massage group compared to the control participants. This can be explained by the increase in local vascularization caused by the massage, which may have induced increased sensitivity. It is
concluded that healthy women do not exhibit increase in pressure pain threshold immediately after a single classic massage session.
