Analysis of the measurement properties of the regular physical exercise adherence scale in individuals with neurological disease
Abstract
Introduction: Physical exercise and physical activity are consolidated as primary strategies, of a prophylactic and therapeutic nature, in the fight against a broad spectrum of chronic diseases. The regular practice of physical activities is established as an effective means to minimize the majority of harmful changes linked to unfavorable health conditions, disorders, neurological illnesses and the process inherent to aging. Objective: To analyze the measurement properties of the Regular Physical Exercise Adherence Scale (EAEFR) in Brazilian adults diagnosed with neurological disease. Material and Methods: This was a cross-sectional study, carried out in accordance with the guidelines of the COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement INstruments (COSMIN) to analyze the measurement properties of the EAEFR in neurologically stable adult and elderly patients with a band aged between 18-59 years and practicing physical activity in the city of São Luís (MA) in the last four months of 2023. Applied the Regular Physical Exercise Adherence Scale (EAEFR) which consists of a list of physical, emotional and/or environmental, which facilitate or hinder adherence to regular physical exercise; the Modified Rankin Scale (ERM) and Barthel Index (BI). Statistical analyzes through reliability tests, internal consistency and ceiling and floor effects. Results: Test-retest reliability showed an Interclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC) > 0.80. Internal consistency was obtained by Cronbach's alpha > 0.75, and there was no ceiling and floor effect. Conclusion: Demonstrated the reliability and internal consistency of the EAEFR for assessment in adult and elderly neurological patients.
