Abstract

Introduction: Multiple sclerosis is a chronic and autoimmune disease that affects the white matter of the central nervous system. Objective: To identify the contribution that physical therapy can provide for patients with multiple sclerosis. Methodology: The study of integrative literature review was carried out with documents from the years 1993 to 2019, in English and Portuguese. Data collection was performed at Lilacs, SciELO, Medline and NCBI. Results: Physical therapy showed improvement in muscle strength, balance, range of motion, cardiorespiratory conditioning and prevention of sequelae left by the disease, contributing to the reduction of signs and symptoms such as tiredness, muscle weakness, contributing to this. The quality of life of patients. Conclusion: Physical therapy according to the study proved to be important in the treatment for multiple sclerosis patients, who presented improvement in the main symptoms and control of outbreaks.
