Abstract

Bucomaxillofacial prostheses aim to restore the quality of life, citizenship and reintegration of these patients with craniofacial deformities in society. Craniofacial deformities are characterized by loss of the original form in the head and neck region, the most frequent causes of craniofacial deformities are facial trauma, pathologies and failures in embryological development, resulting in psychological, family, and even social problems for the patient. In view of this, the aim of this review is to demonstrate the process of characterization of facial prosthesis in the functional aesthetic rehabilitation of craniofacial deformities. The work was carried out through search in the Database Pubmed, Science, SciELO, Google Academic, using as keywords: Bucomaxillofacial prosthesis, Rehabilitation, Prosthesis Characterization. Studies demonstrating the need for aesthetic and functional rehabilitation of patients affected by craniofacial deformities through facial prosthesis characterized to improve quality of life, self-esteem, and return to social and family life were included. It was observed in the research how the relative simplicity of the technique promotes an immense benefit not only to the patient involved, but to all of his social life.
