Abstract

Measles is a serious public health problem and is related to different socioeconomic and public policies characteristics in the Brazilian territory. Thus, this study aimed to analyze the spatial distribution of measles and its relationship with sociodemographic and public policy variables in the municipality of Parauapebas, in the year 2020. In this descriptive and cross-sectional work, epidemiological and Basic Health Units data were obtained from the Municipal Health Department of Parauapebas, the demographic and cartographic data in the official databases of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics. The analysis of the spatial distribution of cases was performed using the kernel technique, using Arcgis 10.5 software. 80 measles cases were confirmed. The outbreak occurred in the rainy season. The epidemiological profile showed that the highest percentage of the disease occurred in children under 1 year of age. The distribution of cases occurred in a non-homogeneous way in the districts of the municipality with the highest density of cases of the disease in socially vulnerable areas. There was a recurrence of measles in the municipality of Parauapebas in the period that corresponds to the Covid-19 pandemic, showing that the disease remains a threat to the Brazilian health system.
