Abstract

Introduction: The epidemiological situation of leprosy is serious and persistent in Palmas. Objective: Analyze the trend of leprosy physical disabilities by age group in Palmas, Tocantins, between 2001 and 2020. Methodology: The study was based on analysis of data from the Notification of Injury Information System (SINAN), investigating the indicators of new leprosy cases according to the degree of disability by age group and their trends by joinpoint regression analysis. Results: A significant increase in grade 1 disabilities was observed in children under 15 years old (AAPC: 16.1; CI: 9.1 to 23.6) and grade 1 (AAPC: 7.5; CI: 4.1 to 11.0) and grade 2 (AAPC: 5.4: CI: 2.2 to 8.7) in individuals aged 40 to 59 years, while the detection coefficients with grade 2 physical disabilities in the elderly remained stable (AAPC: 1.4; CI: -28.4 to 43.6). Conclusion:Leprosy continues to be a serious public health problem in Palmas, with significant increases and stability in detection rates with disabilities in all age groups evaluated. These results highlight the persistence of the disease’s hidden prevalence in the territory, which reinforces the importance of continuously improving the control program
