Abstract

The study aimed to analyze the association of Eating Disorders (EDs) and body image during the Covid-19 pandemic in university students of the Medicine course in Montes Claros - MG. This is an analytical, quantitative and transversal epidemiological study developed with 260 medical students from public and private institutions. The Eating Attitudes Test - 26 (EAT - 26) was used for identifying ED symptoms, the Silhouette Scale for Adults was used for evaluating body image satisfaction and a questionnaire including sociodemographic variables was also applied. The association between the variables studied and the prevalence of EDs was verified by a bivariate analysis followed by Poisson regression with robust variance. This study demonstrated an elevated prevalence of ED symptoms (30,4%) and body image dissatisfaction (85,4%) among the students. The EDs were most prevalent among female sex students (RP=1,65) and those dissatisfied with their body image (RP=4,18). Based on the factors associated to EDs evidenced in this study, the administrators can adopt actions in prevention and intervention focused on the characteristics of students that are prone to developing eating disorders, aiming to prevent these health issues and providing a better quality of life to these students and future healthcare professionals.
