Perfil epidemiológico de intoxicações por medicamentos no Tocantins entre 2020-2022

Abstract

Medications are an essential therapeutic resource for the resolution capacity of health services, but inappropriate use is associated with poisoning, which is considered a serious public health problem. The aim of this study was to analyze exogenous drug poisoning in Tocantins between 2020-2022. This is a retrospective, descriptive and quantitative epidemiological study, based on secondary data obtained from the Notifiable Events Information System. Between 2020 and 2022, 2,372 cases of exogenous drug poisoning were reported in Tocantins. Most poisoning cases were female (76%), aged between 20-39 years (40%), brown (81.78%) and living in the Capim Dourado health region (33.7%). The clinical variables show that the main circumstance was a suicide attempt (70.74%), confirmed only by clinical aspects (61.2%), predominantly evolving into a cure without sequelae (86.4%). Exogenous drug poisoning is a public health problem in Tocantins and requires information and awareness-raising strategies. In addition, expanding access to the different therapeutic modalities for diagnosis and psychological and/or psychiatric support for patients with suicidal behavior, with a focus on women and young adults, who represent most reports of drug poisoning in Tocantins.
