Abstract

Introduction: The social distancing adopted as a strategy to curb coronavirus infections has brought about radical changes in dynamics at all levels of education worldwide, as in-person classes have been converted to emergency remote learning in most countries. Objective: To understand the emergency remote teaching adopted during the pandemic from the conceptions of academics of a nursing course. Methodology: Participative, descriptive, qualitative study, developed with students of a nursing course with the aid of the Photovoice data collection technique. Data collection took place in November 2021. Results: The sample was composed of 34 students from the second, sixth and tenth period of a nursing course, 29 females (85%) and five males (15%), who were divided into focus groups. The participants produced 34 photographs that gave rise to three thematic categories: the most important part of nursing is practice; contributions of the emergency remote model to nursing education; and difficulties experienced by students and teachers during emergency remote teaching. Final considerations: Emergency remote learning has proven to be a potential resource for continuing teaching in pandemic scenarios.
