Abstract

Phytotherapy is a practice that has been growing in Brazil and around the world and industrialized herbal medicines represent one of the main plant products. Due to the high incidence of digestive problems, it is necessary to know about these phytomedicines. Therefore, this work aimed to analyze the profile of industrialized herbal medicines intended for the treatment of digestive system problems, with valid registration in 2023 in Brazil. There are 80 herbal medicines, including Phytotherapeutic Medicine (MF) and Traditional Herbal Product (PTF), 18 medicinal plants were used to produce these medicines. The species with the largest number of registered and valid herbal medicines in 2023 was Senna alexandrina (laxant). Most of these medicines are obtained with just one species, being considered simple and all are for oral use. Only two of these species are not included in official national and international documents. This survey can be a great facilitating tool for health professionals who prescribe these products, as well as for industries to verify gaps that can be filled with the development of new herbal medicines.
