Abstract

Tobacco use disorder is considered a chronic and epidemic disease resulting from dependence on nicotine and tobacco products. This integrative literature review aimed to expand the knowledge about the importance of pharmaceutical care to smokers. The search, which took place in December and January, included scientific articles, monographs, dissertations and theses, abstracts, government guides with abstract and full text available electronically, written in portuguese, english and spanish, published between 2003 and 2023, in scientific journals and that were appropriate to the theme proposed for the study. The search used the PubMed, SCIELO, LILACS, BVS, CAPES portal and Google academic databases, employing the following descriptors: "pharmaceutical care", "pharmaceutical attention", "pharmaceutical assistance" and " tobacco use disorder". After analysis, 14 articles composed the basis of the study. The general result observed in all articles analyzed emphasizes the importance of the pharmacist in the assistance and pharmacotherapeutic follow-up to smokers, seeking strategies for prevention, control, and treatment of smoking cessation. However, it was noticed a scarcity of studies relating the pharmacist in the multidisciplinary team of smoking treatment.
