Abstract

Sepsis is a serious health condition, its management with updated protocols was carried out as part of the Surviving Sepsis 3 campaign. This cross-sectional, descriptive study analyzed the spatial distribution of sepsis mortality in the state of Pará, considering the implementation of the aforementioned campaign, with data on the number of deaths in 2 periods, namely from 2010 to 2015 and from 2017 to 2022, in the state's Integration Regions (IR). Epidemiological data such as gender, age and ethnicity, as well as the number of doctors per 100,000 inhabitants per IR and their Average Human Development Index (AHDI) were obtained from official sources. A higher number of deaths were identified in male, elderly and brown patients in both periods, as well as significant gradients in the lethality rates of these territories when comparing the two periods, with the highest number of deaths from sepsis occurring in regions with very low or low AHDI. Therefore, the need to increase the coverage of doctors, as well as their continuing education is emphasized, in order to mitigate the occurrence of the studied disease.
