Abstract

Antiretroviral therapies have revolutionized the treatment of individuals with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), increasingly reducing mortality from the disease. The concomitant use of several medications gradually increases the risk of drug interactions, which can lead to ineffective therapy and adverse reactions. This study aims to conduct an integrative review of articles published between 2008 and 2022, seeking to identify the main drug interactions that occur with antiretrovirals. This is an integrative review with the purpose of promoting a systematic investigation on the problem in order to identify possible knowledge gaps. For the discussion, 11 articles on the studied topic were selected. It was concluded that the use of antiretrovirals for more than six years potentially increases the occurrence of drug interactions between other medications used concomitantly.
