Abstract

Introduction: Poliomyelitis is a contagious disease, caused by the Wild Poliovirus, which can manifest itself in an oligosymptomatic way. Vaccination is the most important prevention strategy, however, the low level of vaccination adherence nationwide alerts authorities to the endemicity of this virus. This work aims to analyze the vaccination situation against polio, in Brazilian regions between 2019 and 2021. Methods: This is a descriptive research, carried out through data collection on the platform of the IT department of the Unified Health System. Health (DATASUS), referring to epidemiological data on polio vaccination coverage in Brazil between 2019 and 2021. Results: It is evident that in 2019, polio vaccination reached 84.19% of the evaluated population. In 2020 and 2021, these rates gradually reduced to 76.79% and 71.04%, respectively. Discussion: The results show that the vaccination target recommended by the Ministry of Health was not achieved during the period studied. Conclusion: Therefore, there was a reduction in polio vaccination coverage in all regions of Brazil between 2019 and 2022.
