Abstract

Borderline Personality Disorder is a mental disorder that affects the way a person thinks, feels, and behaves, characterized by an intense fear of being abandoned, which can lead to desperate behaviors to avoid abandonment. Several sciences have focused on this disorder, including psychoanalysis. In view of this scenario, the present study aimed to investigate borderline personality disorder based on psychoanalytic theory and expanding the understanding of the characteristics of this disorder. The study sought to present the possible treatments involving individual therapy, along with medications in some cases. In methodology, the study was based on an integrative review composed of scientific articles and books, being a qualitative research of an exploratory nature. In the results, it was evident that psychoanalysis is an effective treatment approach in the treatment of Borderline patients, promoting a deeper understanding of the patient's psyche, helping to develop skills to deal with impulsive behaviors, and building a healthy and lasting sense of emotional identity.
