Abstract

Burns are one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide, affecting millions of people each year. The objective of the study was to identify the clinical and epidemiological profile of burn victims treated at the Burn Treatment Center of the Hospital e Pronto Socorro 28 de Agosto, in Manaus, Amazonas. It was a descriptive, cross-sectional and retrospective study, with the analysis of 60 medical records of patients over 18 years of age treated between July and October 2023. The variables analyzed included age, sex, ethnicity, education, origin, location of the incident, depth and extent of burn, causative agent, need for grafting or debridement, nutritional support, ventilatory assistance, length of stay and clinical outcome. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The most affected variables were male (61.67%), mixed race (58.33%), with incomplete primary education (26.67%) and from Manaus (71.67%). Burns occurred predominantly in domestic environments, with flammable materials being the main causative agent. A total of 66.67% of patients required surgical intervention, and 46.67% were admitted to the intensive care unit. The mortality rate was 18.33%. The results reveal the severity of burns treated at the Burn Treatment Center, with a high demand for surgical interventions and clinical and intensive care.
