Abstract

The growing interest in a healthier lifestyle and body aesthetics has led many people to seek out gyms, clubs, and Physical Education professionals (PEF) for proper guidance in exercising. This study aimed to characterize the profile of Personal Trainers (PT) in the city of Imperatriz, Maranhão. A quantitative, analytical-descriptive, longitudinal study was conducted with 94 PTs, using the "Snowball" technique for recruitment. The research was approved by the Ethics Committee of CEUMA University and followed the guidelines of the National Health Council resolutions. Data analysis was performed using SPSS software, applying statistical tests with a significance level of 5%. Results showed that 49% of PTs have a degree in Physical Education, 31,9% hold a bachelor's degree, and 19.1% have a postgraduate degree. Most work autonomously and offer in-person services to adult clients, with a workload exceeding 8 hours a day. The majority require a prior physical evaluation, but only 19,1% recommend a cardiological exam. Additionally, 34% of PTs advise the use of supplements or ergogenic resources. It is concluded that, although PTs have various qualifications, there are concerns about client safety due to the lack of mandatory cardiological exams before starting physical training.
