Humanization in Oncology Treatment

Impacts on Patient Well-Being

Abstract

The National Humanization Policy (PNH) aims at patient integration, good transmission of information and individual assistance, especially in cancer patients and palliative care, therefore, it is crucial to understand the changes caused in cancer patients through the implementation of humanized practices in their treatments. This work is a systematic review about the influence of humanization in oncological treatments, based on research found on the Virtual Health Library (VHL) portal, which were carried out in the last 10 years. The research resulted in information regarding humanized procedures that improve children's well-being, intensifying the bond and adherence to treatment, as well as interventions that provoke a good emotional state and help in the development of a welcoming environment, with communication with health professionals an essential point in oncology therapy. The article highlights the importance of humanization in oncology treatments, and how appropriate conduct, based on empathetic communication and playful activities, can improve quality of life, reduce anxiety levels and benefit the patient as a whole. It is emphasized that humanization helps to alleviate the possible negative emotions that oncological procedures can generate in patients, such as anxiety.
