Abstract

Suicide is considered a serious social and public health problem. This article sought to analyze the temporal distribution of notifications of self-inflicted violence in Palmas-TO in the period from 2014 to 2023; demonstrate aspects such as age group, gender, race and the method of aggression of self-inflicted violence; and to relate these epidemiological data to the scientific evidence already published. This is an exploratory, descriptive and explanatory research through secondary data from the SIM and SINAN systems on the DATASUS website. The results were presented through tables and graphs. The analysis was performed using statistics of simple measures through absolute numbers, percentage, and rate in the population. As a result, in the decennial analysis, there was an increase in the records of self-inflicted violence and death by suicide in the period studied. The prevalence profile of self-inflicted violence is women (73%), aged 15 to 29 years (63%), of brown race (73%) and presents poisoning as the main form of aggression (62%). Based on the results obtained, it is considered the need to include health care strategies in an integral way in the public health network in order to prevent suicidal behavior and promote mental health.
