Análise de mortes de crianças e adolescentes por causas externas no Estado do Tocantins (2000-2021)

Abstract

This study analysed deaths from external causes among children and adolescents in the state of Tocantins. This is an ecological and retrospective study, based on data collected from the Department of Informatics of the Unified Health System - DATASUS - in the Mortality Information System (SIM) database, with information between the years 2000 and 2021. A total of 3940 deaths of people aged between 0 and 19 were recorded and the following variables were analysed: causes of death, age, colour/race, sex, municipality and health regions of the state. The highest number of deaths occurred in 2016, with 5.58% (n=220). On the other hand, the lowest number of deaths from external causes was recorded in 2005, at 3.29% (n=130). The most frequent causes were transport-related accidents, followed by assaults. In terms of age group, the highest occurrence was among individuals aged 15 to 19, with 2,267 deaths (57.5%) among males (n=2995; 76.1%), brown (n=2663; 67.5%), living in the Capim Dourado health region (n=858; 21.7%), with a predominance in the city of Palmas (n=671/858; 78.2%).
