Intoxicações por substâncias que causam transtornos, antes e após o confinamento pela COVID-19
Abstract
This study evaluates the epidemiological profile of poisoning by substances that cause disorders, before and after the confinement of COVID-19, reported by the Toxicological Information and Assistance Center of Campina Grande (PB). This was an epidemiological and retrospective study. Data were collected from the Brazilian Poisoning Data System (DATATOX). A total of 289 cases were reported, with a predominance of males (66.0%), between 20 and 29 years old (35.9%), with completed secondary education (13.4%), of brown ethnicity (62.3%) and from urban areas (90.5%). The cases were predominantly oral (72.2%), mild poisoning (65.6%), with the main outcome being cure (83.8%). When associating the circumstances “suicide attempt” and “abuse” with the time frames, “before confinement” (2018/2019) and “after confinement” (2021/2022), it was observed that there was a significant increase (p<0.001) in cases, for both circumstances. A significant increase (p<0.001) was also noted in the prevalence of almost all age groups after confinement, except for the 10-14 year-old category (p=0.9999). Alcohol was the psychoactive substance most involved in poisoning (54.5%), followed by cocaine in powder form (19.0%) and marijuana (7.2%). It is concluded that, in the pandemic scenario, there was an increase in acute psychoactive poisoning in Campina Grande (PB).
