Abstract

The abusive consumption of alcoholic beverages affects individuals' health, causing damage to the central nervous system and various organs, as well as leading to behavioral changes, dependence, and mental disorders, resulting in negative impacts on family, social, and professional life. This study aimed to outline the epidemiological profile of patients hospitalized with mental disorders due to alcohol abuse in the state of Tocantins from 2019 to 2023. The methodology consisted of a bibliographic and epidemiological study with a descriptive and quantitative approach. The study included cases of hospitalization due to mental disorders caused by excessive ethanol use in the state of Tocantins (ICD-10, code F10) available in the DATASUS system. The sample comprised data from the period 2019 to 2023. The research found that most patients were male, of mixed ethnicity, aged between 40 and 44 years, and predominantly residing in the municipality of Porto Nacional. The findings are expected to contribute to the establishment of priorities for public health policies, as well as to strengthen healthcare professionals' efforts in identifying and treating this disorder in the state.
