Fitoquímica e Bioatividade da Solanum capsicoides (Gogoia)

Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Faced with the growing demand for new biatitive compounds from medicinal plants, Solanum Capsicides (Gogoia), widely distributed in Brazil, stands out as a promising species. OBJECTIVE: Determine the plant's phytochemical composition and investigate its toxic, antimicrobial and antiparasitic potential. METHOD: A dry gross extract was prepared from hydroalcoholic solution to 50% of leaves and stem, then performed phytochemical, microbiological, parasitological and toxicological tests. RESULTS/DISCUSSION: Phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of saponins and flavonoids. In microbiological tests, the extract demonstrated activity against Enterococcus faecalis and klebsiella pneumoniae at 100 mg/mL concentration and bacillus subtilis at concentrations of 100 and 50 mg/mL. In the antiparasitic evaluation, an effect on Entamoeba sp. at concentrations of 100 and 50 mg/ml, without activity against Giardia Lamblia. Toxicity was considered low, with about 80% survival of saline artemia at the concentration of 1,000 µg/ml. These results suggest that S. capsicidides has compounds with bioactive potential, especially against bacteria and intestinal parasites, with low toxicity in in vitro model. CONCLUSION: Given the scarcity of studies on this species, additional investigations are needed to elucidate their mechanisms of action and pharmacological applications.
