Sarcopenia em contexto hospitalar: avaliação funcional de pacientes com neoplasias sólidas e hematológicas.
Abstract
Patients with oncological and hematological neoplasms present alterations in body composition, with sarcopenia being a prevalent and underdiagnosed condition that negatively affects functional performance, therapeutic response, and prognosis. This study aimed to analyze the association between the risk of sarcopenia and functional capacity in hospitalized patients with onco-hematologic diseases. It is an observational, cross-sectional, and quantitative study conducted in a hospital setting between January 2024 and July 2025, including 57 adult patients diagnosed with oncological or hematological neoplasms. The SARC-CalF questionnaire, the Timed Up and Go (TUG) test, and the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) performance scale were applied. The prevalence of sarcopenia risk was 24.6%. A significant association was observed between the risk of sarcopenia and reduced functional performance in the TUG test (p=0.005), worse functional status according to the ECOG scale (p=0.001), and lower BMI (p=0.000). It is concluded that the risk of sarcopenia is related to poorer functional outcomes, highlighting the importance of early screening, which enables interventions that may improve treatment adherence and clinical prognosis.
