CAUSAS DE INTERNAÇÕES DE RECÉM-NASCIDOS EM UNIDADE DE TERAPIA INTENSIVA NEONATAL: REVISÃO SISTEMÁTICA DA LITERATURA
Abstract
The term newborn refers to a clinical definition corresponding to the period from birth to 28 days of life; these are considered individuals who are fragile and require specific care. Therefore, in cases of compromised health in these newborns, there is a need for the use of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). This study aims to identify the main causes of newborn admissions to NICUs. This study is a systematic literature review, with a qualitative and descriptive approach, which aims to identify, gather, and analyze the main scientific evidence presenting the causes of newborn admissions to NICUs. For this, studies were searched in three main databases. The final sample of this review consisted of six studies. Respiratory problems, prematurity, and low birth weight are among the main reasons for admissions to neonatal intensive care units. The factors identified represent important indicators of neonatal vulnerability, reinforcing the need for prevention strategies, qualified care during prenatal, delivery and postpartum periods, as well as strengthening care practices in neonatal units.
