Profile and Knowledge of People Regarding Slimming Pens
Abstract
Obesity is a chronic and multifactorial condition characterized by the abnormal or excessive accumulation of body fat, with the potential to significantly compromise health. This study aimed to analyze the profile of users of slimming pens, their motivations, level of knowledge about the treatment, and perception of its effectiveness and safety.51 individuals participated in the study aged among 20 and 56 years with an average BMI of 29.6, predominantly female. The main comorbidity reported was anxiety, and the most frequent goals for use were improved overall health and rapid weight loss. Most used the medication for 1 to 3 months, under professional guidance, and reported significant weight loss, with a high satisfaction rate. The most common side effects were nausea, changes in appetite, and headache. Cost was pointed out as a relevant factor in treatment adherence, and many participants combined its use with other weight-loss strategies. The perception of improved quality of life was expressive among respondents. The results reinforce the importance of food education and professional guidance as cornerstones for healthy and sustainable weight loss, warning about the risks of the indiscriminate use of drugs in non-clinical contexts.
