TRANSTORNO DE COMPULSÃO ALIMENTAR EM UNIVERSITÁRIAS COM EXCESSO DE PESO: ASPECTOS DO COMPORTAMENTO ALIMENTAR E FATORES ASSOCIADOS
Abstract
Introduction: Binge eating disorder (BED) is characterized by the ingestion of large amounts of food in a short period. Overweight female university students are more susceptible. Objective: To evaluate the factors associated with binge eating disorder in overweight female university students. Material and Method: A cross-sectional analytical study was conducted with overweight female university students enrolled in a higher education institution. Symptoms of anxiety, depression, and stress were assessed using the DASS-21; BED was evaluated using the Binge Eating Scale; and disordered eating was assessed using the Disordered Eating Attitudes Scale. Statistical analysis was performed using Stata®, employing Robust Poisson regression. Results: Of the 139 interviewees, 33.81% consumed alcoholic beverages, 19.42% reported very poor or poor sleep quality, and 82.73% presented body dissatisfaction. Symptoms of anxiety, depression, and stress were found in 61.87%, 64.03%, and 69.79%, respectively; 20.14% presented with eating disorders, 43.88% with disordered eating attitudes, and 4.32% used laxatives. Body dissatisfaction (PR: 5.70; CI: 3.04-10.6), alcohol consumption, very poor or poor sleep quality, laxative use, and disordered eating attitudes were factors associated with eating disorders. Conclusion: A significant percentage of overweight female university students were found to have eating disorders.
