Epidemiological and Clinical Profile of Users Attended in the Dental Emergency Department of a Family Health Unit in Palmas, Tocantins
Abstract
This study aimed to analyze the epidemiological and clinical profile of users treated in emergency dental care at the Novo Horizonte Family Health Unit in the municipality of Palmas, Tocantins. This is a descriptive, retrospective, and quantitative study, based on the analysis of records of emergency dental care provided between August 2024 and February 2025. Sociodemographic and clinical variables, types of procedures performed, outcomes of care, and referrals to specialized care were evaluated. The results showed a predominance of care in the morning shift, a higher frequency of female users, and a concentration of care in adults between 20 and 49 years of age. Pain symptoms were the main reason for seeking the service, and the procedures performed were mostly related to pain relief and the control of infectious processes. A high resolution capacity of the unit was observed, with most care resulting in discharge or treatment completed at the service itself. However, limitations were identified in the electronic medical record, highlighting the need to improve the quality of information. It is concluded that Primary Health Care plays a central role as an entry point and strategic space for the effective care of dental emergencies.
