Abstract

Cardiovascular diseases are among the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. In this regard, cardiovascular risk factors are present even in young people. The aim of this study was to investigate possible relationships between cardiovascular risk factors and the general health levels of health students at the University of Gurupi (UnirG). With a sample of 323 participants, there was a predominance of females (73.06%) and a higher frequency in the 18-20 and 21-23 age groups. A significant association was found between “poor general health” and the presence of modifiable risk factors, such as physical inactivity, high stress levels, poor dietary habits, and alcohol consumption (p<0.05). These findings indicate that, even in young populations, lifestyle-related behaviors can compromise general health and increase cardiovascular risk. The university lifestyle, marked by academic demands, poor diet, physical inactivity, and stress, can act as a trigger for the development of chronic conditions. Given this, it is important to highlight the importance of educational interventions that promote healthy lifestyle habits, reduce risk factors, and encourage preventive practices, contributing to health promotion and reducing cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in this population group.
