Abstract

Objective: To consolidate the knowledge on strategies for adherence to type 2 diabetes mellitus treatment by identifying and expanding on the main approaches in the literature, focusing on the most effective interventions and practical implementations. Materials and Methods: An integrative literature review was conducted between July and August 2024 across BDENF, SCIELO, MEDLINE, LILACS, and IBECS databases using descriptors: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, Health Education, and Treatment Adherence. Data were gathered with Rayyan software and extracted with a custom tool, then organized into a table for descriptive analysis. Results: Six articles were included, highlighting strategies such as the impact of nutritional status, self-care, behavioral interventions, and health education programs. Understanding barriers faced by diabetes patients and identifying effective educational strategies were crucial. Conclusions: Adherence to type 2 diabetes mellitus treatment is multifaceted, involving not only clinical but also social and emotional factors. Effective strategies include assessing nutritional status, self-care, risk management training, and therapeutic education.
