Abstract

Tetralogy of Fallot requires surgical intervention with the aim of alleviating the hypoxia generated by the four functional and anatomical defects, which presents two possibilities: definitive surgical neonatal repair or a palliative approach (Blalock Technique - Classic and Modified Taussig). Therefore, the present study seeks to compare surgical techniques for treating Tetralogy of Fallot, highlighting their advantages and disadvantages for the patient's prognosis. An integrative review of the literature was carried out, using the National Library of Medicine (PUBMED) and Virtual Health Library (VHL) databases, covering articles from the years 2020 to september 2024, with the following descriptors controlled by DeCS/BVS: “Congenital Heart Diseases”, “Tetralogy of Fallot” and “Surgical Intervention”. The choice of surgical treatment for Tetralogy of Fallot is complex, involving definitive and palliative options, which depend on the severity of the case and the surgeon's experience. Among them, definitive surgical repair performed early stands out for reducing cardiac complications and the need for future surgeries. However, the choice of surgical approach for Tetralogy of Fallot still maintains the principle of being personalized to each case.
