Abstract

Aim: This study investigated the knowledge and attitudes of Dentists regarding the use of Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) in Dentistry. Methodology: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study that included CDs users of the Whova app during the 28th Congress of the International Association of Paediatric Dentistry (IAPD) in 2021. A validated questionnaire was used to collect data, which were analyzed descriptively. Results: Of the 32 participants, the majority were female (78.13%), with over 10 years of experience (59.38%), and either completed or currently pursuing a master's degree (56.25%). Only 18.75% of participants reported receiving adequate instruction on SDF during undergraduate studies, compared to 45.74% during postgraduate studies. The majority demonstrated understanding of SDF's uses in Dentistry (68.75%) and the main issues associated with its use (62.5%). Furthermore, they agreed with SDF application for arresting caries in enamel (81.25%) and dentin (78.12%). Although SDF is commonly associated with treating carious lesions in deciduous teeth (31.25%), most CDs do not regularly use it in clinical practice, although 84.37% anticipate increased future use. Conclusion: Despite recognizing the indications and advantages of SDF, Dentists face challenges in its practical implementation.
