Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus is one of the main global public health challenges, with alarming growth in recent decades. Given this context, this study aims to analyze the nutritional counseling provided by nurses in the care of patients with Diabetes Mellitus in PHC, focusing on the analysis of its practices, challenges, and potential. Thus, an integrative literature review was carried out, in which original articles with qualitative, quantitative, or mixed approaches were included. The selected studies addressed nutritional counseling provided by nurses in the care of people with Diabetes Mellitus in the context of Primary Health Care, totaling eight articles included in this analysis. The practice demonstrated is presented, although described by basic guidelines, low systematization, and challenges such as lack of specific training, limited time of care, and socioeconomic barriers of patients. In conclusion, nutritional counseling by nurses is a valuable tool in the management of diabetes, with the potential to promote autonomy and improve disease control. However, its effectiveness is conditioned by several factors, and future studies are needed to deepen the understanding and improve its implementation.
