Abstract

Introduction: Home Care (HC) provides integrated services within the family setting, offering both clinical and psychosocial benefits. In Brazil, the Melhor em Casa Program underscores the importance of Health Literacy (HL) for the effectiveness of home-based care. Objective: To assess the levels of health literacy among healthcare professionals working in the Home Care Service (SAD) in Palmas, Tocantins. Methodology: This cross-sectional study included 36 healthcare professionals and employed the Brazilian version of the Health Literacy Questionnaire (HLQ-Br) alongside a sociodemographic survey. Statistical analyses included ANOVA and Spearman’s correlation to examine associations between sociodemographic variables and HL scores. Results: Educational attainment and professional experience emerged as key determinants of HL. Interpersonal competencies were identified as a critical area for improvement. Professionals with medical training and shorter time in the SAD reported higher HL scores. Conclusion: Despite demonstrating technical competence, the findings highlight the need for continuous professional development focused on interpersonal skills and teamwork to ensure patient-centered home care delivery.
