Abstract

Introduction: Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis that primarily affects the airways. Because it is a poverty-related disease, its carriers suffer from significant stigma, classifying it as a social disease. Objective: To analyze tuberculosis mortality in the municipalities covered by the XI Health Region, from 2010 to 2021, using the Mortality Information System. Methods: Ecological study with analysis of sociodemographic profile, spatial distribution, and measures of central tendency using public data from 2010 to 2021. Results: Most deaths were among men, aged 15 to 59, without a partner, with no education, and residing in Serra Talhada. Conclusion: The municipality of Serra Talhada is the hub of the Regional Health Department and, therefore, even if they reside in other municipalities, the deaths of people who sought health care due to tuberculosis are counted as deaths in Serra Talhada.
