Abstract

In Brazil, the Ministry of Health offers several vaccines at no cost, which are distributed periodically or even during periods of nationwide vaccination campaigns. They are administered and scheduled according to the National Vaccination Schedule, which begins in the first year of a person’s life. The aim of this review is to assess the main factors that influence the adherence of parents and/or guardians in complying with the basic schedule of the child immunization program. This is a systematic literature review. According to the established criteria, 08 studies were selected, being the result organized into three categories: “Trust”, “Complacency”and “Convenience”. One concluded that a more efficient and enlightening action is necessary, particularly by the health system professionals, especially the nurses and their team, toward parents and/or guardians, so that one can be more effective in complying the vaccination schedule since childhood period. Regarding the lack of immunobiologicals in the health units, this is a pertinent responsibility for health institution managers and the government. They are supposed to keep control and organize vaccination campaigns, according to their calendar, and also offer the appropriate amount of immunobiologicals according to the needs of the population.
