Abstract

Introduction: Rheumatic diseases (RDs) are the set formed by different pathologies that affect mainly the locomotor system: joints, cartilage, muscles, tendons and ligaments, and may manifest themselves acutely and evolve to a chronic phase. Objective: To carry out a descriptive and retrospective survey of RDs, according to the criteria of the American College of Rheumatology (ACR), in the medical records of a hospital in the Médio Solimões region, in the interior of the state of Amazonas. Method: This is a descriptive and retrospective study, with document-based data collection, where sex, age, place of birth and affected RDs were recorded, in the period from September 2008 to September 2019. The medical records were collected from the files of the Specialized Medical Care Service (SMCS) of the Regional Hospital of Coari "Pref Dr Odair Carlos Geraldo". Results: The female gender was the most affected with 53.47%. The mean age was 58.61±13.77 years.  336 (75.16%) were from the city and 111 (24.84%) from other places. Low back pain affected 176 individuals (39.37%), osteoarthritis affected 128 individuals (28.64%), osteoporosis affected 78 cases (17.45%), gouty arthritis affected 30 cases (6.71%), fibromyalgia affected 21 cases (4.70%) and lupus or scleroderma affected 14 cases (3.13%). Conclusion: It was possible to observe that the municipality follows the national average of incidence of rheumatic diseases and that due to its territorial isolation and difficulty of access to large centers, it becomes necessary to create a specialized care program for prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of the local population.
