Overload and quality of life of family caregivers of hemodialysis patients

Abstract

Introduction: Although dialysis treatment is considered a procedure with beneficial results in life, it causes important changes in the life cycle of patients, which are also linked to social and psychological issues that undermine the limits of treatment. It is worth mentioning that all these topics can have a direct impact on the lives of family caregivers, as they are responsible for the care. Objective: to evaluate the burden and quality of family caregivers of hemodialysis patients. Treatment and methods: this is an analytical, cross-sectional study with an analytical approach, of the care of hemodialysis patients 41 qualitative treatments of effective hemodialysis treatments. The whoqol-bref and zarit scale instruments were used to investigate the quality of life and burden of these caregivers. Results: or results formed predominantly by women, adults, married, with study studies is 15 years old, not performing any paid activity and in which they were the daughters of graduated patients, with a profile of up to one minimum wage, of Catholic religion, living in an area rural and with time of caregiver between one to five years. No quality of life scores, the social domain had the highest rating. Regarding the zarit score, light overload and difficulty stood out. Conclusions: the family caregiver is overloaded with care activities and has the social domain to a greater extent in the dimension of quality of life.
