Abstract

This research, part of the project approved under the PIBIC Call - EDITAL PROPESQ UNIRG/FAPT No. 001/2023, is characterized as an action-research investigation. The study recognizes the importance of teaching the English language and highlights the significance of its introduction from early childhood. Its aim is to investigate the importance of English language teaching in the early stages of basic education and to facilitate access to language education in the early years of public schools. This is especially relevant considering that, in many institutions, this type of educational offering generally begins only from the second stage of elementary school. Regarding the methodology used, the research was conducted through workshops held in a public elementary school in the city of Gurupi-TO, involving students from the early years of elementary education. The results highlighted the need for progress toward more inclusive language education, ensuring that children in public schools also have access to these opportunities. Furthermore, the results showed the positive reception from students and the cognitive, socio-emotional, and educational benefits provided by the English language workshops.
