Perfil sociodemográfico e espacial da mortalidade de mulheres em idade fértil no Tocantins
Abstract
In Brazil, women of childbearing age (10-49 years) represent around 60% of the female population, facing socioeconomic challenges that affect their health and increase the risk of mortality. The main causes of death include neoplasms, circulatory diseases, external causes and infectious diseases. Therefore, investigations into the mortality of these women are essential to support effective public policies. The study seeks to analyze the sociodemographic and spatial profile of mortality among women of childbearing age in Tocantins between 2018 and 2022, identifying prevalence, causes and associated characteristics. This is a cross-sectional and evaluative study, based on data from DATASUS. Variables such as age group, race/color, education, marital status and causes of death were analyzed in the eight health regions of Tocantins. In this way, 2,776 deaths were recorded, predominantly among mixed-race, low-education and single women. The highest mortality rate occurred between 40-49 years old. The main causes were neoplasms, circulatory diseases and external causes, with high underreporting in the records. The findings highlight the need to improve death records and strengthen public policies to reduce inequalities and prevent avoidable deaths, promoting equity in female health.
