Abstract

Objective: To assess the ergonomic risks associated with the work of heavy machinery operators in underground chromium ore extraction. Methodology: This is an exploratory-descriptive study based on field research with both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The instruments used included a sociodemographic and occupational questionnaire, the Standard Nordic Questionnaire, and the REBA (Rapid Entire Body Assessment) analysis. The sample consisted of 32 heavy machinery operators, including LHD loaders, Fandrill drillers, scaling hammers, and shotcrete robots. Results: The findings indicate that inadequate postures and pain in the lumbar, dorsal, and shoulder regions are the most significant occupational risk factors affecting the health of heavy machinery operators involved in chromium extraction. Conclusion: The study highlights the need for training programs aimed at promoting postures that support the maintenance of a neutral position, as well as ergonomic adjustments to the equipment. These measures seek to minimize ergonomic risks that can cause discomfort and improve workers' quality of life.
